For about two weeks now I am getting the following error when emerging python-ldap-2.3.5 or 2.3.1:

What versions of dev-python/pyrex and dev-lang/swig do you have emerged?
Comment 3 Skion 2008-07-24 19:05:06 UTC
Rob, I have:

dev-python/pyrex-0.9.8.4
dev-lang/swig-1.3.36
Comment 4 Rob Cakebread (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-07-24 21:36:41 UTC
Could you please try with setuptools-0.6_rc8-r1 and report back?

The version you are using is blocked in pyrex but the block may have been added after you emerged it.
Comment 5 Skion 2008-07-25 06:40:27 UTC
Rob thank you...

I did already have that version of setuptools installed, but somehow it was not used. I moved the the older version out of the way manually:

$ mv /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/setuptools-0.6c7-py2.5.egg /tmp

and re-emerged =setuptools-0.6_rc8-r1 just to be sure, which allowed me to compile python-ldap just fine.

Strange that the old setuptools wasn't removed properly, but that might just be because of an error on my side. Can't say for sure...
