Description Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2008-07-14 12:10:03 UTC
New ext3 partitions are created by the Gentoo 2008.0 LiveCD installer (i686, text window installation program) with an inode size of 256, but grub cannot read this.
The resulting installation cannot be booted.

For details, see bug #214563.

I have reproduced this multiple times with 2008.0-r1
It would appear though, from looking at that bug, the issue had been resolved on the version of grub used w/ the livecds. so i'm not quite sure what's going on.

Scratch that last part, -r4 was included w/ the livecd, -r5 fixes the bug.

So...wouldn't this be an issue for anyone doing any type of install (with the installer or by hand) with stable keywords?

Why? Since 06 May 2008 grub-0.97-r5 (which fixes the bug) is e.g. stable x86.

I have had similar problem with livecd-i686-installer-2008.0-r1.iso.
It appears the live cd reports the hda(PATA drives) as sda(SATA drives).

When you follow the manual everything appears to work, even grub-install, until reboot and I get:

root-NFS: No NFS server available, giving up.

This is because the drives in grub.conf, fstab and mtab are configured as sda, when they should be hda.

I changed all the PATA drives to hda in grub.conf, fstab and mtab and I have a clean boot.

Hope this helps and fixes this problem.

The installer is deprecated.
