Trying to emerge xmms, i ended up being blocked with aspell. I tried to merge the 2 packages individually, but they block each others... neo ~ # emerge aspell-en Calculating dependencies... done! try to unmerge aspell first, it should fix the blocker. Portage 2.2 might help here but I suppose you are running stable (please _always_ paste emerge --info) assigning to app-dicts for their final word.
I did the emerge --unmerge aspell then: neo ~ # emerge aspell Calculating dependencies... done! Ok, did: emerge --unmerge aspell then: emerge --unmerge aspell-en then I am good to go. Thanks (still believe this is a bug, but I guess this is a valid work-around)
Thank you for report. But this is not a bug. In portage <2.1.5 such behaviour is considered normal and how to work with blockers is (well, should be, I'm not 100% sure) documented in handbook. In newer versions (>2.1.5) portage have an ability to resolve such blockers automatically. If interested take a look at: http://planet.gentoo.org/developers/zmedico/2008/05/06/blocker_conflict_automatic_uninstall In any case now closing as INVALID.
