Description cilly 2008-07-09 19:18:44 UTC
Following line in /etc/portage/package.keywords:

=net-firewall/iptables-1.4.0*

emerge runs very slowly and list the following:

emerge -avuDN world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating world dependencies... done!

Total: 0 packages, Size of downloads: 0 kB

Nothing to merge; would you like to auto-clean packages? [Yes/No]

If line in /etc/portage/package.keywords is changed to:

=net-firewall/iptables-1.4*

emerge runs fast and lists:

emerge -avuDN world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating world dependencies... done!
[ebuild NS ] sys-kernel/hardened-sources-2.6.24-r3 USE="symlink -build" 46,008 kB
[ebuild U ] net-firewall/iptables-1.4.1.1 [1.4.0-r1] USE="(-extensions%*) (-imq%) (-ipv6%*) (-l7filter%*) (-static%)" 427 kB

Total: 2 packages (1 upgrade, 1 in new slot), Size of downloads: 46,434 kB

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

Between the two emerge commands nothing is done except changing the iptables entry in package.keywords. No sync, nothing else done.

Seems to me like a parsing error of entries /etc/portage/* .... ?

As hinted in red letters, "Gentoo Bugzilla" is not the correct product to file bugs regarding ebuilds. Please use "New -> Gentoo Linux -> Component: Ebuilds" in future.

--newuse
Comment 3 cilly 2008-07-09 19:52:59 UTC
Carsten, thx.

What do you mean with --newuse?

Nothing - copy & paste by accident.

It's likely that the atom in package.keywords has absolutely nothing to do with emerge running "very slowly". Slowness in dependency calculations generally means that you need to run emerge --metadata or --regen for some reason (see `man emerge` for information about those options).

There is not enough information to do something, closing as works for me.

Feel free to reopen if you have some new insights.
