Description Volker Hemmann 2008-07-06 11:42:09 UTC
I had a similar problem with 4.3.1. After update /usr/lib64/gcc was gone.

This time it is only almost as bad. /usr/lib64/gcc still there. /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.1 still there. Files gone.
ls /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.1
include-fixed

all tries to emerge/pmerge something fail

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.pmerge -aus system
2.update gcc 4.3.1 to gcc 4.3.1-r1
3. watch pkgcore deinstall lots and lots of files.

Actual Results:
it ends with:
 dir:/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.1/include/g++-v4/ext/pb_ds/detail/basic_tree_policy

 * If you have issues with packages unable to locate libstdc++.la,

finished

at that point all the stuff that got installed into /usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.3.1 got removed again.

Expected Results:
gcc should work.

Please post the output of:
emerge -pv =gcc-4.3.1-r1
Comment 3 Volker Hemmann 2008-07-06 12:07:46 UTC
I 'downgraded' with help of a package I created the last time this happened so:

emerge -pv "=gcc-4.3.1-r1"
WARNING: repository at /usr/portage/local/layman/einit is missing a repo_name entry
WARNING: repository at /usr/local/portage is missing a repo_name entry

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies              ... done!

Comment 4 Mark Loeser (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-07-06 15:20:52 UTC
If you do the upgrade with Portage, do you have any problems?
Comment 5 Volker Hemmann 2008-07-06 17:51:06 UTC
oh great. I complaint to the wrong people.

With portage everything is fine. So it is a pkgcore bug.
Comment 6 Brian Harring (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-07-06 20:53:07 UTC
upstream ticket of 204, fixed/released in 0.4.7.5

and... since I lack privs to make the change, I'd suggest
url=http://pkgcore.org/trac/pkgcore/ticket/204
summary=<pkgcore-0.4.7.4 merge bug kills sys-devel/gcc-4.3.1-r1 profile files

Both are more accurate, and since this *is* a pkgcore bug it ought to be in the summary...

Just saw Solar's bump, marking this as FIXED.
