This morning, I upgraded to kernel 2.6.25-gentoo-r6 after it has been stabilized. However, the last stable version of virtualbox{,-bin}, 1.5.4, which depends on virtualbox-modules-1.5.4, seized to work because the kernel module does not work any more. After querying bugzilla, I found that version 1.5.6 together with virtualbox-modules-1.5.7 solves this problem and I can confirm this. Since I did not find any open bugs against the packages required to update, I ask you to stabilize this to have stable users not breaking their system by this. <virtualbox-modules-1.5.7 does not compile against Linux kernel 2.6.25 Now that gentoo-sources-2.6.25-r6 is now stable, I think virtualbox{,-bin}-1.5.6 and virtualbox-modules-1.5.7 should be stabilized now and older versions be masked or removed

(In reply to comment #2) > Alessio, thoughts on this? > well the current status of virtualbox releases is the following: - virtualbox{,-bin} 1.5.2: this release is outdated and should be removed. - virtualbox{,-bin} 1.5.4: this release is outdated and should be removed. - virtualbox{,-bin} 1.5.6 and virtualbox-modules-1.5.7: another outdated release, i was able to compile and use virtualbox-modules-1.5.7 with gentoo-sources-2.6.25-r7 too, (virtualbox-modules-1.5.7) was a maintenance release for the 1.5.6 series, so virtualbox{,-bin} ebuilds should be forced to use this modules release instead of 1.5.6. - virtualbox{,-bin} 1.6.2: while virtualbox OSE is still available for download, the bin (PUEL) version was removed from Sun Download Center and we can't host that file on gentoo mirros, in addition this release is afflicted by various bugs (upstream) fixed in 1.6.4. - virtualbox{,-bin} 1.6.4: this release contains a little bug/glitch (see #233683), but at the current status fixes a lot of bugs/problems. So yes, we need to prune some old vbox stuff, but i'm not happy to see users using old/outdated releases of virtualbox (eg: 1.5.6+1.5.7) when new and better releases are in town.
