I try to update KDE to 3.5.9 . Because kconfig_compiler crashes, I cannot. I thought I was a broken patch, so I tried earlier revisions in ~x86 and I had the same error. Now, I am stuck with KDE 3.5.8 . A few days after I reported the bug, Gentoo 2008.0 was out. I soon had to update my profile because I was using the deprecated 2006.1 profile, but it did not work. So I had to start over with a good old mkfs.ext3 and reinstall (using an hardened 2008.0 stage3 this time). I had no problem emerging KDE 3.5.9 then.
Seems to be a problem to user's system, as there were no acknowledgements. Closing
