The volume and brigntess keys do not work unless the fn key is pressed. They should, as default work without pressing the fn key. The default pbbuttonsd.conf has kbdmode = fnpressed. Changing this to kbdmode = none returns normal functionality. This also effects when logged into os x.!! that's a matter of taste, we just install the default config as it comes with pbbuttonsd
