net-irc/erc - THE emacs irc client. You use emacs? you have to try this thingy. i installed it yesterday and didnt start my nice epic4 until now. it has an emacs style configuration (M-x customize-groups RET erc RET) where you do your whole personal stuff (fex nickname, server, colors, ignorelist, blahblah). after that do an M-x erc-select, and it should ask you about server/port/nick (with your default values filled in). It'll connect to the irc-server you specified. Now it's up to you which channels to join, etc... Really nifty is that you can use it with window-splitting (for example query a pal in a small slpitscreen and chat in #gentoo in the meantime) - There's also a speedbar modification which i havent tried yet. okay, thats it till now :) ahh, forgot to mention: the erc developers dont supply daily snapshots, thats why i had to make one myself. in order to make the ebuild work, is has to be put to the ibiblio.org mirror. -phoen][x- ps.: thx to seemant for the two-line src_install() :)

thanks for the contribution!
got any other good emacs tools which you want in gentoo? i'm currently looking for some, so feel free to contact me. maybe a documentation package (most stuff is kinda hard to configure, iir my gnus configruation tasks :/) -phoen][x-
phoen][x, I can't name anything off the top of my head, but definately go ahead and create bug reports for emacs or xemacs packages you'd like to see in portage. A gnus config tool sounds cool. Assign them directly to me if you like. Matt
