Description jonathan e. Snow 2008-06-24 15:41:18 UTC
After a few hours of surfing, I find ~5-10 nspluginviewer processes that have taken 100% of cpu. I have to repeatedly 'killall nspluginviewer' to get back to normal cpu usage. NB this bug has been reported on other distributions, and some people have posted kludges to do the latter every X seconds. Thatsa no good fix. Nspluginviewer should be constrained automatically to be a good citizen, with a nice value, or a watchdog process that kills greedy scripts, or something.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open konqueror
2. Surf web
3. run 'top' or similar.
Comment 1 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-06-24 16:47:44 UTC
KDE 3.5 or 4. Are you using the Qt-Gtk engine? emerge --info missing.
Comment 2 Carsten Lohrke (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-29 00:45:47 UTC
No feedback...
Comment 3 jonathan e. Snow 2008-09-04 08:28:30 UTC
This problem is only getting worse. I suspect most people who don't run xosview don't notice it.

Comment 4 jonathan e. Snow 2008-09-04 08:29:45 UTC
I'm sorry I didn't repond, somhow I didn't get the needinfo request, this is still a major annoyance for me, and for others as well, I've seen scripts out there that repeat "killall nspluginviewer" every second, but that leads to problems too.

I confirm this problem. Here is my Gentoo information.

In kde-4.2 I see same problem

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 4347 tuupic 39 19 122m 29m 16m R 133 1.5 0:10.43 nspluginviewer

Comment 7 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-05-30 09:53:44 UTC
It is flash guys.
Test it with gnash or swfdec.

We cant make that binary blob to behave.
Please confirm that nspluginviewer is not evil when using the above instead of flash.

Marking as NEEDINFO, feel free to reopen this after you check out the alternatives Tomas suggested and/or the latest flash plugin.
