I have tried to emerge openoffice on my system, and I get this error: 
root@sirlancelot msandford # emerge --pretend openoffice 
 
These are the packages that I would merge, in order. 
 
Calculating dependencies | 
!!! Error: couldn't find match for >=sys-devel/gcc-3.0.4-r3 in 
app-office/openoffice-641d 
 
root@sirlancelot msandford # 
 
That is just after doing an emerge rsync.  I have searched for bugs and I 
haven't found anything yet, so I thought I would submit it.  If anyone needs 
more info on my system, mail me.  vader82@vader82.net

I thought OpenOffice was masked?  anyway, if you really really want it, do the
following:

cd /usr/portage/sys-devel/gcc
ebuild gcc-3.0.4-r4.ebuild merge
emerge openoffice

Then, wait a day while it compiles
