Description amadeus.bit 2008-06-20 00:31:36 UTC
If I start gmplayer and try to edit the video preferences, it crashes after a few secs with following message:

MPlayer dev-SVN-r26753-4.3.1 (C) 2000-2008 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (Family: 6, Model: 15, Stepping: 11)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 SSE SSE2

MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: unknown
- MPlayer crashed by bad usage of CPU/FPU/RAM.
Recompile MPlayer with --enable-debug and make a 'gdb' backtrace and
  disassembly. Details in DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports_what.html#bugreports_crash.
- MPlayer crashed. This shouldn't happen.
It can be a bug in the MPlayer code _or_ in your drivers _or_ in your
gcc version. If you think it's MPlayer's fault, please read
DOCS/HTML/en/bugreports.html and follow the instructions there. We can't and
won't help unless you provide this information when reporting a possible bug.

If I am fast enought I can change the settings and close the dialog. At playing any kind of media no errors occur.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. start gmplayer
2. try to edit the video prefs
3. move your mouse and try different options

Actual Results:
After a few secs I got a popup with interup, reason:unknown and the error message above

Your emerge --info too, please.
Comment 2 Ben de Groot (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-06-20 14:45:19 UTC
I propose we mask the gtk useflag for mplayer, and no longer officially support the outdated gmplayer. Users can choose another gui front-end, like gnome-mplayer, kmplayer, smplayer.

Representing upstream, I would like to state that we support this, since we consider removing the Gui due to code ugliness and lack of maintainer, at least in the long term.
Comment 5 Reimar Döffinger 2008-06-21 18:43:34 UTC
Note that I just found a bug in the libavcodec png decoder, so the fault might be there and not in MPlayer...

Reimar, thanks for chiming in, I was actually just working on a notice in the ebuild.

Added an ewarn that it's not supported in mplayer-1.0_rc2_p27120
Comment 7 Reimar Döffinger 2008-06-22 07:46:05 UTC
The png crash bug should be fixed in FFmpeg SVN r13877 , so it might be worth to try a version based on that.
Note that I could not reproduce this bug, before gmplayer for me crashed immediately at startup, though I currently have the "Terminator" skin enabled, so that might make a difference, too.
Comment 8 Denis 2008-09-15 10:34:02 UTC
I have the same bug.

Old bug. Try with 20090731 snapshot. Closing as TEST-REQ. Reopen if it's still a issue with up-to-date system.
