please re-run with 'EXTRA_EMAKE=-d' in your environment, gzip the full output, and attach it here.
Comment 5 Holger Kiel 2008-06-29 00:28:25 UTC
I think this should be source of the problem:

    SUBDIR perl
Makefile out-of-date with respect to /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i686-linux/Config.pm /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i686-linux/CORE/config.h
Cleaning current config before rebuilding Makefile...

I solved it by doing
touch -d 2008-03-28 /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i686-linux/CORE/config.h
touch -d 2008-03-28 /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i686-linux/Config.pm
and emerging git again.
But I'm not sure if this is breaking any perl consistency checking.

emerge log with EXTRA_EMAKE=-d (stdout+stderr)

As requested by Robin in Comment #4

This is a log (stderr included) with EXTRA_EMAKE=-d in the environment. It is indeed very big :).

That is indeed the problem. emerge doesn't like this rebuild.

This is what I don't get, the dates on those files are 2008-05-15 and 2008-05-27 respectively. Unless some other file getting generated from the git source package is older than that for some reason, I don't know /why/ it's complaining about a file being out of date. My system time is accurate as of this writing.

$ date -u

I don't know if I want to try your specific date touch solution... mostly because the make shouldn't be behaving as it is in the first place.
Comment 8 Robin Johnson archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2008-08-24 02:08:28 UTC
The perl folk suggest your Perl is borked.
"emerge perl" and then try again.
Comment 9 Jason S. 2008-08-24 17:42:19 UTC
FWIW, here's my use flags for perl and libperl:

[ebuild R ] sys-devel/libperl-5.8.8-r2 USE="gdbm -berkdb -debug -ithreads" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] dev-lang/perl-5.8.8-r5 USE="gdbm -berkdb -build -debug -doc -ithreads -perlsuid" 0 kB

Re-emerging with -1av now.
Comment 10 Jason S. 2008-08-24 18:44:25 UTC
The unfortunate thing is that a few extra things changed, so I don't know what exactly the resolution was, however:

perl and libperl re-emerged without a hitch, and git-1.6.0 just installed. Frankly, if git was upgraded, I don't exactly care about 1.5.4.5 specifically, it's just the fact that git was breaking my emerge worlds.

With 1.6.0 this doesn't appear to be the case. I note that 1.5.6.4 appears to be the latest stable (at least for the x86) keyword), so I'd suggest Wilfried try that version, and optionally 1.6.0 (if they don't fear the ~) .
Comment 11 justXi 2008-08-25 19:00:44 UTC
I emerged 1.5.6.5 and it works.
It seems that my perl installation is broken, due to a problem while emerging subversion with perl support.
