Hello, We've setup a rsync mirror here at La Sierra University. Just wanted to get it vetted for possible inclusion into general gentoo rsync population. Server Name: mirror.lasierra.edu IP Address: 192.156.214.143 Admin Name: Brian Friday Admin E-mail: mirroradmin@lasierra.edu Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Sorry for the delay, and thanks for the server. I do have one question though. Does the server have at least 5Mbps full duplex bandwidth? I think the Mirror documentation (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml) changed since you submitted this.
Yes the documentation has changed sometime in the last 40 days. We currently have 3 Mbit full duplex bandwidth.
I've added 192.156.214.143 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org and post back here when you've done so. We'll monitor the server for a couple days to make sure things are working fine. Thanks.
Okay our rsync script is updated we should be syncing from rsync1.us.gentoo.org as of today 1530 Pacific time.
The server was syncing without problems for quite a while. Something seems to have happened though. Fri, 01 Aug 2003 06:01:03 +0000 (date -uR format) was the last succesful sync. Can you see if something happened?
Should be fixed now and resyncing at 830AM PDT. Would you believe I miss spelled the word "quiet"... as "quite". We had been monitoring the rsync's on our side but dediceded everything was going well... haha never underestimate the power of being dsylexic...
Well, I started checking again with Wed, 06 Aug 2003 04:01:03 +0000 (date -uR format), which was OK. A few other times below indicate some missed syncs. Regarding the one that is 6 minutes late, could there be anything else running on the server that slowed the process? I can't verify the timestamp currently, as it is reporting the 10 user limit has been reached. Do any logs mention when the user limit is reached? Checked (UTC) Timestamp ================================================ 20:20:02 Thu, 07 Aug 2003 19:31:03 +0000 (expected 20:00) 23:20:02 Thu, 07 Aug 2003 23:06:00 +0000 (6 minutes is a bit late) 01:20:03 Fri, 08 Aug 2003 00:32:01 +0000 (expected 01:00) 01:50:03 Fri, 08 Aug 2003 00:32:01 +0000 (expected 01:30)
Got a hardware error on our san at the moment so we will likely be down until about 6pm PDT Friday, August 8th. Looks like one of the hard drives decided to die on us so they are giving us a whole new rack of 15 drives to replace the current one. I'll update this if we have any more changes.
Well we just got the word that our beta test has run into serious trouble and that the server we are using inconjunction with the san needs to be taken down and tested at the manufacture's site. I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen for wasting your time at this moment I don't think we'll be able to continue to be a rsync mirror. I hope that in the future we can help out and I apologize for the stress caused. Thanks for your patience. Sincerely, Brian Friday
Thanks for the update. I've removed the IP from rsync1.us' access list. If a server becomes available in the future, just reopen this bug, or create a new one. Thanks for your interest in supporting Gentoo.
