Specs: ECS k7s50 MoBo(sis735 chipset, sis 5513 ide-controller), 256 MB DDR-RAM, Athlon-xp 2000+, IBM 60GXP 40G, Compaq OEM DVD-ROM Drive(Pioneer DVD 115 0127), Aopen CD-RW CWR 2440. CD:s are attached to ide-0 and hd:s to ide-1 because of some winbl0ws problem years ago. Bug 1: The I'm trying to install Gentoo, but the livecd bootup hangs. What did help though, was using "hda=ide-scsi", then it would continue nicely(for a little bit) which leads me to believe that the problem lies with the ide/cdrom driver somewhere. It's the first time i've seen this error, running Slack 9 right now, have tried a number of different dists with the same setup, no probs. Bug2: As a workaround to the above, i booted with "hda=ide-scsi hdb=ide-scsi", which let me get past the lockup. However, a second later it said "Mounting CD.. ." something, and complained about not being able to find /newroot/dev/cdroms/* - it seems that my scsi disks wasn't picked up by devfs for some reason. I could bypass this by not setting my second cd to ide-scsi, which would then magically turn up in /dev/cdroms/ Then I could simply move the cd to that one when the process stopped. I never dared to proceed past this though, got some bad vibes =) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Can this be tested again with 1.4, or one of the newer experimental versions?
