Looks similar to bug #222161. Could it be related to new installs based on a 2008.0 beta livecd?
Comment 4 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-06-09 05:54:33 UTC
Oops.
Comment 5 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-06-09 05:57:17 UTC
Does anything else (C based) fail to compile?
Comment 6 Jarryd Beck 2008-06-09 06:28:54 UTC
the initrd part of genkernel fails with the same error

I solved it by re emerging glibc. It appears that /usr/lib/libc.a was missing.

I've heard that one before. I'll make a mental note.
Is it alright to close this bug? If so, go ahead and do so.
