Description David Grant 2003-06-09 21:55:37 UTC
I've tried running "/etc/init.d/usermin start" and it won't start usermin. I
also tried removing the "needs" section of the script but it still won't work.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Comment 1 Seemant Kulleen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-06-10 06:51:48 UTC
can you paste the error?
Comment 2 David Grant 2003-06-10 08:24:56 UTC
There was no error, it just had the two exclamation marks [!!] instead of [ok]. So I assume that the result $? didn't have a proper value. So I assume that you don't have the same problem I did? In that case, I'll have to try looking in more detail tonight.
Comment 3 David Grant 2003-06-10 08:28:10 UTC
I've tried running /usr/sbin/usermin directly, and nothing seems to happen. I also tried /usr/sbin/usermin --pidfile=/var/run/usermin.pid and nothing seems to happen.

did you run #usermin setup
as in ebuild told ?
Comment 5 David Grant 2003-07-11 16:12:35 UTC
I did run usermin setup but it still doesn't work. Can we reopen this bug?
Comment 6 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-07-11 16:23:36 UTC
login as root
try 1.030
then etc-update
then /etc/init.d/usermin zap
the usermin setup
then /etc/init.d/usermin start
Comment 7 David Grant 2003-07-11 16:45:30 UTC
It works now. Running usermin setup actually starts a usermin instance. But it's called miniserv.pl. I had to kill that manually. Using zap doesn't work. I'm using 1.020. Hopefully it will work ok on boot. Thanks.

great
Comment 9 David Grant 2004-03-12 12:48:39 UTC
I'm getting similar problems after upgrading usermin again.

This issue should be fixed or else it will bite us in the butt later with other users.

this was fixed long ago
