When I try to boot on the Gentoo 2008.0_beta2 Minimal CD for IA64, I can see that initrd.gz is extracting but when it's done the screen goes black with a blinking cursor forever. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Pop the Gentoo 2008.0_beta2 Minimal CD for IA64 in the CD drive 2. Boot and select CD-ROM boot. 3. Wait forever in front of a blinking cursor after extracting initrd.gz. Actual Results: After the extraction of initrd.gz I get a blinking cursor. Expected Results: Expected the kernel to boot. I suspect this to be related to a kernel problem because using Gentoo 2007.0 Minimal CD for IA64 I have no problem. Just to let you know, I have the same behaviour with Ubuntu 8.04 for IA64. I will try other kernel versions from 2.6.18 (Gentoo 2007.0 CD) up to 2.6.25 and give you more results. If you need more info just ask.
Is this still an issue with the final 2008.0 release media?
I have the same issue with the final iso of Gentoo 2008.0. I'm not sure if I'll have time to test kernels between 2.6.18 and 2.6.25 but if I do I'll post a comment here.
Just for information, I successfully installed a Gentoo 2007.0 and the vanilla kernel 2.6.25.8 (not using emerge).
which machine is this? If you'd like, you could test an autobuild cd.
