Hallo! I have a HP NC4200 Laptop with an "Intel 915 GM" GFX-Card. When i use the xf86-video-vesa driver s2ram works great, but when i use "xf86-video-i810" driver, version 2.1.1 X crashes. I can reboot the system by pressing the power button, or access the machine via ssh, but i have no chance to get X working.

Not a bugzilla bug. Please file these bugs in Gentoo Linux product.

Please try with xorg-server 1.4.0.90 and with xf86-video-i810 2.3.1 Thanks
Hi! I upgraded the driver, but now i get a black screen. I can access the box via ssh, but X seems to be dead. In the new Attachments you can find the installed packages and the new X log file. regards Thorsten

(In reply to comment #12) > Created an attachment (id=155519) [edit] > new xorfg.conf Your Device and Monitor sections contain way too much stuff. The i810 driver is now very clever about getting those things right. Please try removing : - the BusID and all Option lines from the Device section - HorizSync, VertRefresh and Gamma lines from the Monitor section Thanks
> Please try removing : > - the BusID and all Option lines from the Device section > - HorizSync, VertRefresh and Gamma lines from the Monitor section > I removed the options from xorg.conf but there is no change. I get a black screen again. See my xorg.conf where i commented out the lines. I will also attach the Xorg.0.log file. regards Thorsten

Alright, well there's little else I can do for you. Please : - read this howto http://intellinuxgraphics.org/how_to_report_bug.html - open a bug over at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/ - add "remi@gentoo.org" as a CC on that bug Thanks
Thanks for reporting upstream. I'll track the outcome there
I think i found the problem: xf86-video-i810 depends on "x11-libs/libpciaccess" but this package is not in the portage only in a portage-overlay. Could someone put this dependency in the ebuild an provide the ebuild from x11-libs/libpciaccess into portage? (xf86-video-i810 version 2.3.1-r1 needs x11-libs/libpciaccess version 0.10 or higher) regards Thorsten

(xf86-video-i810 version 2.3.1-r1 needs > x11-libs/libpciaccess version 0.10 or higher) Nope, 2.3.1-r1 builds fine without libpciaccess and so do all the drivers currently in portage. We will be adding libpciaccess support for xorg-server 1.5. You can use the latest git driver with xorg-server 1.4, but you'll need to edit the overlay ebuild to drop libpciaccess support. Or you can use the x11 overlay entirely. But for now, libpciaccess will not be used for xorg-server 1.4 as it is broken and the server-side API changed quite a bit. Could you tell me a bit more which combination of versions finally solved your issues? Thanks for tracking this bug all the way :)

I installed following packages: * x11-drivers/xf86-video-i810-2.3.1-r1 * x11-libs/libpciaccess-0.10.2 from the x11 overlay * x11-base/xorg-server-1.4.0.90-r3 > Thanks for tracking this bug all the way :) No problem. If you have any further questions feel free to ask ;) I think debian uses libpciaccess to build the xserver-xorg-video-intel driver...
(In reply to comment #21) > * x11-libs/libpciaccess-0.10.2 from the x11 overlay Could you attach the full output when building the intel driver with libpciaccess on the system? I just want to make sure that it does get picked up. Because if libpciaccess is the only piece that solves your issue, then you need to let upstream know about it. I think Jesse Barnes did not understand your message properly :) > I think debian uses libpciaccess to build the xserver-xorg-video-intel > driver... We'll eventually use it, but for xorg R7.4 which should be available before the summer (hopefully...) The problem is, both the server and drivers need to be rebuilt to use libpciaccess. Thanks
Reassigning back to x11 as I am now on that alias.
I can confirm this with xf86-video-i810-2.4.2-r1, libdrm-2.3.1, mesa-7.1, xorg-server-1.5.0 and gentoo-sources-2.6.26-r1 (DRM module built from kernel sources). Gonna attach my xorg.log from the crash. This lockup already happened twice this day, so it's REALLY annoying, because I always have to restart the whole system (ACPI keys still work) to get it working again. Greets, Tobias

Tobias, Could you please open a bug in freedesktop's bugzilla? The one Thorsten opened was somewhat invalid. Now that xorg-server 1.5 is available, it should be easier to find out what the issue is. Thanks
This bug is already filed at the FDO bugzilla by me: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16521 Maybe it has a wrong description and the issue is much bigger. At least with my current mesa setup I don't have any FBO extension exported by the driver. I'm going to update the bug and include the new log with further information.
Any changes with newer drivers? Thanks
Currently using the git 2.5-branch here. I don't experience the issue anymore during normal operation, but I still can hang the system with the fbo firecube demo. So it's still not fixed properly.
Keep bugging upstream, stay on the radar :) Thanks for the follow up
It seems this bug has been fixed by upstream. If you have any more issues, don't hesitate to open a new bug or to reopen this one if the symptoms are the same. Thanks
