(In reply to comment #3) > mapserver-5.0.2.ebuild > > final version Renaming this ebuild to mapserver-5.0.3.ebuild emerged well and mapserver seems to be working fine. I haven't tried the tcl use flag with 5.0.3. because I bet the problem would remain the same.
Some extra info. The tcl use flag produces the same error with the 5.0.3 ebuild. Both the 5.0.2 and the 5.0.3 ebuilds produce the error below unless I call emerge with -j1 (as in MAKEOPTS="-j1" emerge mapserver). i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -O3 -march=i686 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -DSAVING_ALWAYS_PERMIT -fPIC -Wall -DNEED_NONBLOCKING_STDERR -DHAVE_VSNPRINTF -DNEED_STRLCAT -DUSE_EPPL -DUSE_MING_FLASH -DUSE_GD_GIF -DUSE_GD_PNG -DUSE_GD_JPEG -DUSE_GD_WBMP -DUSE_GD_FT -DGD_HAS_FTEX_XSHOW -DGD_HAS_GDIMAGEGIFPTR -DGD_HAS_GETBITMAPFONTS -DUSE_PDF -DUSE_GDAL -DUSE_ICONV -DUSE_FASTCGI -DUSE_POSTGIS -DUSE_ZLIB -I/usr/include -I/usr/include -I/usr/include/postgresql/libpq-4 sortshp.o -L. -lmapserver -lgd -L/usr/lib -lgd -ljpeg -lfreetype -lpng -lz -lXpm -lX11 -lpdf -ljpeg -lfreetype -lpng -lz -lXpm -lX11 -ljpeg -L/usr/lib -lgdal -L/usr/lib -lexpat -ljasper -ljpeg -lgeotiff -ltiff -lpng -lpq -L/usr/lib -lpq -lz -lm -lrt -ldl -rdynamic -L/usr/lib/mysql -lmysqlclient -lz -lcrypt -lnsl -lm -L/usr/lib -lssl -lcrypto -lming -L/usr/lib -lpq -lc -lfcgi -lz -lm -lstdc++ -o sortshp /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.2/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lmapserver collect2: ld returned 1 exit status distcc[17685] ERROR: compile (null) on localhost failed make: *** [sortshp] Error 1 make: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
mapserver 5.2.0 source available at <http://download.osgeo.org/mapserver/mapserver-5.2.0.tar.gz>.
If you use the same ebuild as the mapserver-5.0.0-r1 that was allready in the portage tree you will be able to compile and use the mapserver-5.2.0 version. I encountred some issues compiling the perl support. Except this, everything seems right in the use of mapserver itself. Note that I didn't test the java support by now but I will. I think it could be better to put directly the 5.2.0 version as the mapserver devs ask users to update to this version. Let me know if you think there is any relevance to add 5.0.X anymore to the portage tree. The -j1 issue was allready corrected in the mapserver-5.0.0-r1.

Not for me. Let's jump straight to 5.2.0. > The -j1 issue was allready corrected in the mapserver-5.0.0-r1. Yes, it's fine here too.

Just needs to be added to official portage.
