DatorSektionen at Jönköping University now provides a gentoo source mirror available via FTP and HTTP: * http://ftp.ds.karen.hj.se/gentoo/ * ftp://ftp.ds.karen.hj.se/gentoo/ It's synced every 4 hours (00, 04, 08 ...) CET It's currently hosted at 100Mbit/s connection, but this will be upgraded to 2x100Mbit/s or 1Gb/s Admin contact: rootgruppen@ds.karen.hj.se
Johan, Thanks for wanting to help Gentoo with a mirror. I ran a check on the mirror, and there seems to be a slight lag.. Timestamp on ftp.ds.karen.hj.se is Wed, 11 Jun 2008 04:11:24 +0000 Current time in UTC is Wed Jun 11 09:47:52 UTC 2008 You can take a look at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml and see if you're missing something. I'll check back in a few days and we usually run a few checks before accepting new mirrors. Also, please let me know your hardware specs, how many concurrent users you plan to support and what name would you like to be called on our mirrors page.
Hm, that's odd. The cronjob runs at 15 min past: 00,04,08,12,16,20 CEST It should never be more than 4 hours out of sync. The hardware specs on the machine is P4 1,6GHz with 768MB RAM atm, we're looking into upgrading the RAM atleast. I'm not sure how many concurrent user sessions it can take actually, we'll have to see what happens and adjust. You need this information for something before we get in the list?

Looks a little better now : Timestamp on ftp.ds.karen.hj.se is Thu, 12 Jun 2008 00:08:28 +0000 Current time in UTC is Thu Jun 12 04:14:34 UTC 2008 > The hardware specs on the machine is P4 1,6GHz with 768MB RAM atm, we're > looking into upgrading the RAM atleast. We request mirrors support 30 concurrent users, or at least 15 if 30 isn't doable. As for the RAM, yeah an upgrade would be good.
We're syncing from: ftp.ussg.iu.edu (which was very slow during the initial sync I might add) The httpd/ftpd can handle more than 30 concurrent users, but it might not be very fast. We're running lighttpd for httpd which only has a limit of file handles, and this limit is set to 1024. We do however limit number of connections from one IP to 10. As for the name in the list: DatorSektionen, Högskolan i Jönköping
On second thought I think "DatorSektionen, Jönköping University" is better
Still looks okay: * Timestamp on ftp.ds.karen.hj.se is Sun, 06 Jul 2008 17:38:11 +0000 * Current time in UTC is Sun Jul 6 18:47:27 UTC 2008
ftp.ds.karen.hj.se/gentoo/ is in sync, current lag : 1.55 hours Timestamp on Mirror : Mon, 07 Jul 2008 01:38:08 +0000 Current time in UTC : Mon, 07 Jul 2008 03:10:51 +0000 Will run one more check before adding you in, looks good so far.
All good, adding you in. ftp.ds.karen.hj.se/gentoo/ is in sync, current delta : 1.18 hours Timestamp on Mirror : Sun, 13 Jul 2008 02:00:02 +0000 Current time in UTC : Sun, 13 Jul 2008 03:10:59 +0000 Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added your mirror to our list at http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml. Please start syncing from masterdistfiles.gentoo.org as the email I have sent to you instructs. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors-subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send out notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org as this application is used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors. Once again, thanks for the hardware and bandwidth!
