Description Paul Slinski 2003-06-07 11:53:18 UTC
Running XMMS as a normal user, the player fails to start (appear). I checked the
permissions on relevant /dev entries but they were fine (as I could also use
mpg123 and alsaplayer etc.).

There does not appear to be a --debug option, but when I run it from a command
line and hit CTRL+C the following error appears:

[snip]

It would appear that the program simply cannot display itself but it is running.

This occured after the windowmaker change in portage a couple days ago (I am
using windowmaker).

I tried moving .xmms in my home directory to .xmms-old and starting the player
but still no luck. All new config files etc. were created and the player failed
to display. Could this be a gnome problem?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -u windowmaker
2. /usr/bin/xmms
3. CTRL+C
Comment 1 Paul Slinski 2003-06-07 12:15:25 UTC
I exited windowmaker and started up gnome. XMMS failed from it's menu entry but started from a terminal. The problem appeared to be a visualization plugin failing to load (goom).

I disabled the plugin, restarted xmms from it's menu entry and all was well.

Exiting gnome, going back to windowmaker and starting from my menu works as well.

Very odd, I never started the plugin in the first place.

Nonetheless, fixed. Maybe a little more experimentation next time before I file the report ;-)
