paul,

attached is a patch that fixes some ambiguity that will be useful for staging
and cross-compiling with ${ROOT} and also make the bash test syntax a bit more
compliant.

I fixed it in all relevant db ebuilds (3.2.9-r5,4.0.14,4.1.24,4.1.25). Thanks.
