Description noop 2008-05-25 06:52:18 UTC
app-emulation/vmware-modules-1.0.0.17-r1.ebuild:
The 010_all_kernel-2.6.25.patch applied with this ebuild does not work with 2.6.23 kernel, the system hanged there when stopping vmware service.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Use a 2.6.23 kernel from portage.
2.emerge the app-emulation/vmware-modules-1.0.0.17-r1.ebuild
3./etc/init.d/vmware start and then /etc/init.d/vmware stop

Actual Results:
The system hanged there when trying to unmount the vmblock stuff.

Expected Results:
It should stop correctly.

Some people got the same problem.

I made a local ebuild without the 010_all_kernel-2.6.25.patch, it worked.

Hiya Noop,

Could you please try modifying the patch and removing the last few lines (the ones that deal with linux/super.c)? That and a few lines further up are the only ones I can see having a direct effect as the rest are defined to (hopefully) work the same way they did before 2.6.25. I'd like to eliminate the SuperOpReadInode first and see what happens and then move on to the other lines if it doesn't help...

Please let me know how that goes, and hopefully we'll get this sorted. Thanks... 5:)

hi Mike Auty,
I removed the super.c lines, but this did not solve the problem.

Hmmm,

Ok, back to the drawing board then... 5:( Thanks for testing that out though, I may have a couple more tests for you to run after I've had a chance to look into this a bit more...

vmware-modules-1.0.0.17-r1 has just been removed from the tree since there are no products still relying on it. As such this bug is being closed.
