Here's a howto for direct rendering, giving some background and focusing on xfree-drm, which supports most non-nvidia cards. It's in guide-xml format. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

Will edit.
One quick change if you haven't gotten to it yet. The DTD is a relative link instead of absolute, so you'll probably want to change it back to /dtd instead of ../../dtd. I'll probably have some edits on the CVS section eventually, once I finish playing with it. Also one more thing to add in the troubleshooting section, formatted the same as the other questions of course. =) It'd probably be easier for you to just add it than for me to attach a new copy, diff it, etc. Thanks much! Question: I have a PCI card and it doesn't work. Help! Answer: In Section "Device", do Option "ForcePCIMode" "True".
Document edited and committed to cvs. Should be viewable shortly at: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/dri-howto.xml I'll wait a few days before linking it from the main document index and closing this bug. Please review.
I've reviewed it and it looks pretty good. Perhaps you could add one warning near the top of the CVS section: "By their nature, CVS sources are always changing. Your configuration may not look exactly like this one." Thanks again.
Note added. Will link from main doc index in a couple of days if no negative feedback is received.
This bug is getting long in the tooth, please expedite and link Jorge.
