Description nm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-05-15 21:12:51 UTC
I get the following output when booting my system when alsasound starts, as well as every time I manually start/stop/restart the alsasound initscript:

* * *

alsactl: set_control:1300: incompatible field type for control #29

* * *

Using alsa-utils and alsa-lib 1.0.16; the error was not present in alsa-lib/alsa-utils version 1.0.14.

The error is possibly harmless, as sound still works so far as I can tell.

Current /etc/conf.d/alsasound: http://dev.gentoo.org/~nightmorph/misc/alsa.conf

I'm experiencing the same issue Josh reports here, with 1.0.16 alsa-lib and -utils. (Technically, the ~amd64 branches--r1 and r2 respectively--and with -lib patched for bug 218641, but details.)

Here's my emerge --info:

Sorry that this fell on the floor Josh. Could you see whether it's any better with 1.0.19 please?

1.0.19 ain't in the tree . . . I'm on 1.0.17 now and can reboot to test. Did you mean .18?
Comment 4 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-01-19 20:45:14 UTC
It's in the tree but was only recently added. look harder :)

Bah, it must have been added shortly after I synced early this morning.

Anyway, I rebooted, checked my logs, and it doesn't happen anymore with 1.0.17 (stable), so . . . no worries. If it reoccurs with >=1.0.18 once it's stabilized, I'll reopen. No issues right now.
