This error is likely from the bundled gtkhtml that is shipped with the plugin. That is bad. I disabled accessibility for now, and we should have a look if the bundled library can be removed.
I filed a bug about it as the bundled library seems to be patched by Claws Mail upstream.
Ticho was retired (#59986), reassigning remaining bugs to the herd.
Hi, version 0.18 is not in portage anymore, and upstream closed not cooperative the bug as 'invalid'. Do newer versions of the plugin still bundle their own libgtkhtml? Is this bug still relevant?
(In reply to comment #4) > Hi, > > version 0.18 is not in portage anymore, and upstream closed not cooperative the > bug as 'invalid'. Do newer versions of the plugin still bundle their own > libgtkhtml? Is this bug still relevant? Yes. They are. Gtkhtml upstream seems to be unwilling to incorporate fixes from the Claws Mail guys and the latter won't push it. And I won't make a diff and patch our system's gtkhtml to make claws-mail-gtkhtml compile with it.
Thanks. Should have seen it in the missing dependency.
Masked for removal
(In reply to comment #7) > Masked for removal Please could You revert Your decision? I had absolutely no problems with the latest 0.26 and 0.27 versions of this plug-in on x86 and amd64. Both alternatives are worst: Dillo renders most HTML in a very old incorrect way. Fancy has slow start and doesn't support optional (on a button) or conditional (from address book) images loading. Moreover in contrast to gtkhtml, both plugins miss very useful feature of page zoom. Thank You.
Also, fancy doesn't show images which are attached directly to email and not loaded from Internet.

Assigning to correct maintainer.
I am running amd64 arch using =mail-client/claws-mail-gtkhtml-0.32 without issue with =mail-client/claws-mail-3.8.0. I experienced no build-time errors and it has been functioning fine at run time. I initially unmasked mail-client/claws-mail-gtkhtml, but v 0.33 depends on =mail-client/claws-mail-3.8.1-r1, and I did not feel like unmasking and rebuilding claws-mail, so I just unmasked the 0.32 atom of claws-mail-gtkhtml. So, long story short, I feel like at least =mail-client/claws-mail-gtkhtml-0.32 ~amd64 could be unmasked.
But still it bundles a library which is a no-go. Per popular demand I did not remove it from tree and it still is available without much hassle from testing.
Just a heads up. The upcoming Claws version (> 3.9.0, probably 4.0.0) will drop the GTKHtml plugin entirely. This plugin will thus leave the tree.
We will be able to kill all plugins once newer version is stabilized: # Plugins are all integrated or dropped since 3.9.1 PLUGINBLOCK="!!mail-client/claws-mail-acpi-notifier !!mail-client/claws-mail-archive !!mail-client/claws-mail-att-remover !!mail-client/claws-mail-attachwarner !!mail-client/claws-mail-clamd !!mail-client/claws-mail-fancy !!mail-client/claws-mail-fetchinfo !mail-client/claws-mail-gdata !!mail-client/claws-mail-geolocation !!mail-client/claws-mail-gtkhtml !!mail-client/claws-mail-mailmbox !!mail-client/claws-mail-newmail !!mail-client/claws-mail-notification !!mail-client/claws-mail-perl !!mail-client/claws-mail-python !!mail-client/claws-mail-rssyl !!mail-client/claws-mail-spam-report !!mail-client/claws-mail-tnef-parse !!mail-client/claws-mail-vcalendar !!mail-client/claws-mail-address_keeper !!mail-client/claws-mail-pdf-viewer"
