Last week I stopped receiving email from the gentoo-user list. I found this quite odd seeing the list is fairly high traffic. After looking into it further it seems that no mail from Gentoo.org is getting to me including BOUNCE messages. I have verified a number of things using a second email account on a different provider. My system administrator does not see any problem w/ his end (I have already contacted him a number of times). The email address in question is "xcentric@sdf.lonestar.org". Which is part of of http://www.freeshell.org/. You can contact me via "mike@unixgeek.net" which is part of dreamhost. Thanks Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
For some reason I have started receiving them again. I have no idea why. Was this anything that you have done?
This problem has now resurfaced.
Apparently this happening because Gentoo.org is showing up as an open relay. http://sdf.lonestar.org/index.cgi?spamlog?204.126.2.42 we are working w/ the admin to straighten this out. I'll keep this bug posted.
I don't really understand why we are showing up as an open relay, I can't find anything in the Logs about it and your Emailaddress is still subscribed. So probably only sdf.lonestar.org thinks that we are an open relay, since http://ordb.org/lookup/rbls/?host=204.126.2.42 says nothing as well. But please keep me posted. regards
yup, seems like that site is the only one that thinks 204.126.2.42 is a spam source: http://ordb.org/lookup/rbls/?host=204.126.2.42 http://www.openrbl.org/ip/204/126/2/42.htm
It seems that freeshell.org is using a program called spamkill that will reject (and notify the admins) if your following the SMTP RFC rules. At that point I guess it assumes your an open relay. The admin has stopped using program do to a variety of complaints, but this just happened last night. I don't know if we should persue this further or not.
any news ? can this be closed ?
this issue has be resolved by my admin removing spamkiller.
