Hi, I'm having problems with all the 2.x.x versions of the intel driver. So I finaly made a bugreport on freedesktop.org: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15876 Possibly someone is interested
Alright, that's great. We'll just track this bug over at fd.o with Intel people in the loop, no need to waste time going back and forth.
Ok, as you may have read, the modesettings issue is solved. I switched back to stable xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r5 and it works like it's supposed to do. A resolution problem remains, but that's nothing a desktop-setting couldn't change. If you are interested in any information, or need help on that issue: let me know. ;) best regards, Arthur
If the DPI is wrong, then that's still a bug. But you should check those 2 lines in xdpyinfo instead (output from my HP/Intel laptop) : dimensions: 1280x768 pixels (305x183 millimeters) resolution: 107x107 dots per inch
Hi Remi, the two lines are for me: dimensions: 1400x1050 pixels (305x228 millimeters) resolution: 117x117 dots per inch The dimension seams right. I took a ruler and sized it. So the resolution must be right, too. Don't it? For the previous version of the driver, I had a resolution of 96x96. But that has to be wrong after calculation: 1400 / 305 * 25,4 = 116,59... 1050 / 228 * 25,4 = 116,97...
To tell you the truth, I don't know what the deal is with DPI. The physical dimensions of the screen are correct in your case too, so that's a big plus. I just think the actual DPI value is then set by the desktop environment, maybe taking the physical values into account but in ranges rather than with a calculus. I guess this bug is fixed, but I'd say asking for the whole DPI issue on the xorg mailing list (or maybe on the fd.o bug report?) is a good idea nonetheless. Thanks for the follow up
I just started Gnome to check what it does with the resolution. It had still 96 dpi. So I set the right resolution of 117 dpi, and all the fonts got bigger. Like on Xfce all the gtk-apps did too. The only strange thing is, that the Xfce-Configuration apps still have smaller fonts. So I think this is a Xfce problem. I'll try to contact their bugzilla and see what happens. I now have the problem, that my system craches every third logout, or so. During X restart or shutdown. Will try to search fd.o bugzilla and mailing list. If I'll file a bug, I'll add you to CC list, if you don't mind. Thank you for beeing a gentoo dev. ;)
(In reply to comment #6) > I just started Gnome to check what it does with the resolution. It had still 96 > dpi. So I set the right resolution of 117 dpi, and all the fonts got bigger. That's normal. Let's just say that for now, almost none of the X apps out there really know how to adapt correctly to a correct dpi value (ie, not just fonts but the whole UI, themes, icons, ...) > Like on Xfce all the gtk-apps did too. The only strange thing is, that the > Xfce-Configuration apps still have smaller fonts. So I think this is a Xfce > problem. I'll try to contact their bugzilla and see what happens. All modern X apps and toolkits should follow the XSETTING standard. Gtk does. Try running your xfce apps under gnome. Either way, it's another bug entirely. > I now have the problem, that my system craches every third logout, or so. > During X restart or shutdown. Will try to search fd.o bugzilla and mailing > list. If I'll file a bug, I'll add you to CC list, if you don't mind. Please do! It's a big help having bugs come me directly rather than having to look for them *grin* > Thank you for beeing a gentoo dev. ;) Heh, you're welcome. :)
