I have 2 diferent systems: 1) compaq evo N1020v (with an integrated ati mobility U2 / IGP 340M) 2) via kt266a + athlon xp + nvidia geforce 2 gts (and a raid0: hpt372) Both systems works perfectly with previous kernels and acpi,... but,... The 1st system hang up as soon as it try to sync hw clock to system clock. If y manualy disable the automaticaly clock sync it will boot but hangup "later", ie doing a manual clock sync (will check if some what me to do this ;) This system has an automatic thermal control, at the hang up i can hear an increase of the air flow, so the CPU load is 100%. The 2nd system syncs the clock without problems, but hans up starting xwindows. with a blank screen. In both hang ups i cant ping them or read kernel panics. If someone wants more feedback help me to provide it ;)
I was testing some more kernels and acpi patches. With the vanilla 2.4.21_rc3 + latest acpi patch (and the same configurations): -the laptop still hangup at the same point. -the workstation boots and "startx" without any problems. (No problems here,... probably fixed at gentoo-sources-2.4.21 ?) I didn't say that: all versions boot OK with acpi=off, but in this laptop you need acpi to read the battery status.

I own a similar laptop (presario 907ea, athlon xp and ati igp 320M) and run gs-sources-rc1 on it without any problem so far, and I am running it as well on my desktop. I suspect your kernel configuration might be wrong I'll attach my .config for my laptop.

Well,... I summited that bug because only the new kernels (>rc2) hangs up. Really rc1 sould work fine.
ok - the clock issue should have an answer in this bug: 23090 as far as acpi - we have updated acpi in our kernels all the time. you also have to have a compliant acpi spec in your hardware. you might want to look for an updated bios or disable acpi (as you have found works). does the gs-sources-2.4.22_pre2 work ok? Jay
Yep,... Now both boot without problems (sorry by the late response). (But new kernel have some audio ussiues,... will open a new bug)
