When trying to install gamess, you need to manually fetch the tar.gz from the website below, however the page no longer links the version required by the ebuild (March 2007), having only the newer April 2008 version. http://www.msg.ameslab.gov/GAMESS/License_Agreement.html Portage output: ------- [ebuild N F ] sci-chemistry/gamess-20070324.6 USE="-debug -hardened" 8,255 kB >>> Emerging (1 of 1) sci-chemistry/gamess-20070324.6 to / !!! sci-chemistry/gamess-20070324.6 has fetch restriction turned on. !!! This probably means that this ebuild's files must be downloaded !!! manually. See the comments in the ebuild for more information. * Please download gamess-current.tar.gz from * http://www.msg.ameslab.gov/GAMESS/License_Agreement.html. * Be sure to select the version 24 MAR 2007 (R3) tarball!! * Then move the tarball to * /usr/portage/distfiles/gamess-20070324.6.tar.gz * Fetch failed for 'sci-chemistry/gamess-20070324.6' ------- If you go to that URL, they only link their newest build, which is a 2008 one, so in effect, this ebuild cannot be used. Is this something I should file here? This is my first bug report. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. add keyword to /etc/portage/package.keywords "sci-chemistry/gamess ~amd64" to unmask 2. emerge -av gamess 3. go to website linked only to find the version required is not available
Hi, Thanks much for your note. Your bug report was absolutely fine. We need to bump the ebuild to reflect the upstream version change. Unfortunately, upstream does not make older versions available in addition to the most recent ones (which sucks :) ). Hopefully I will be able to update the ebuild soon. Best, Markus
I've updated the ebuild in portage to GAMESS version 11 APR 2008 (R1). Enjoy, Markus
