Description DaggyStyle 2008-05-07 12:34:55 UTC
the start part in the boinc init script depends on net, e.g. boinc wont startup without network, boinc has the capability to work offline, but this dependency prevents it to work offline, please, can it be removed?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

this can be overcome by editing the script but not very safe and every update of boinc will restore the dependency.

You might want to set RC_NET_STRICT_CHECKING="lo" in /etc/conf.d/rc instead. Assigning to boinc maintainer for further comments.

setting this will start other services like samba or cups which are not needed when network is unavailable, boinc can still work when there is no network.

to get work however requires a connection. This is a situation where the majority overrule the minority. The depend will stay due to requirements of downloading, reporting and connecting to projects. As suggested the restricting of net to lo will get you going but it starts other services....there's at least as far as I can see no other real solution to the query.
