Description Allen Brooker (AllenJB) 2008-05-06 16:01:56 UTC
The bouncer script on http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/where.xml is redirecting to the front page instead of the relevant download.

. . . for beta1, yes. beta2 links work just fine, here.

I'm guessing that's a deliberate choice, since we want users to try out the latest media, rather than the out-of-date media.

In which case should you not remove the links (or if you want to keep them on the page, make them work and just use a strikethrough style or something so it's obvious)?

The 2007.0 (ie. the version currently at the top of the page, not beta and thus the one people think they should use) is also doing this.

This method just makes it look like the page is broken and confuses people.

Fair enough. I removed the beta1 links (commented them out actually; seems to be standard practice for the file.)

Hmm, I hadn't noticed that the 2007.0 files are doing this as well. Infra, this should be looked at, unless 2007.0 also should be removed. Personally, I'm erring on the side of "well, this *was* our last stable release", so now the links to 'em need to be fixed.

. . . or I can err on the other side, and comment them out just to make sure there's no brokenness.

Links on this downloads broken:

Gentoo 2007.0 Minimal CD/InstallCD
Gentoo 2007.0 Universal install CD
Gentoo 2007.0 Package CD
Gentoo 2007.0 LiveCD

Something has changed badly in bouncer by the looks of it.
It does report that the 2007.0 links are valid internally, but it's not handing them out to users when it should.

I'll have to investigate the source code.

Can someone fix the ppc/ppc64 links for 2008.0? They're pointing to http://bouncer.gentoo.org/fetch/gentoo-2008.0_beta2-minimal/ppc64/, the powerpc releases aren't on ppc64 but on ppc: http://gentoo.osuosl.org/releases/ppc/2008.0_beta2/installcd/

Both the original issue and the PPC mislink are fixed now.
It was a speedup mod I made to bouncer years ago that came back to bite me when i forgot about it.
