I Find this totally unacceptable that you people removed this ebuild from the portage system...people payed a lot of money for licences to use this particular app so they should be able to use the version they want WITHOUT being held hostage by the ebuilld system. I understand the need for a certain standard but when you are starting to mess with applications that are commercial one should allow for any version to work with the system or keep it out of the ebuild system alltogether.

Dear Michael, you should note that while you paid some amount of money to the VMWare, inc, no portion of this payment ever reached the Gentoo Foundation or any of our developers. Therefore, you should consider any service provided by Gentoo for these ebuilds as a courtesy of individual maintainers of the package and not as a service you paid for.

Hint: all removed ebuilds can be still accessed from our CVS system, see for example
http://sources.gentoo.org/viewcvs.py/gentoo-x86/app-emulation/vmware-workstation/?hideattic=0 . Note that using unsupported ebuilds is risky and insecure, so please don't do that unless you fully understand any consequences.

Assigning to our vmware maintainers.

If you paid, you get the subsequent minor releases for free, so update to 6.0.3, please. Earlier versions are ridden with vulnerabilities, so you shouldn't use them and we do not encourage you to do so by keeping them in the repository.

If you insist on using 6.0.1 despite that, grab the ebuild from the attic¹ and put it your overlay.

Then you poeple should also remove python-2.4.9 from the ebuild system it is also full of secuity bugs and use 2.5.2. But no you poeple still use 2.4.9 in the base system witch has more security holes in it then a sive. So your argument does not stand.
