Sometimes I can't access auomounted directories, then I try to restart the aoutomounter. But I can't stop (or restart) automounter. Often I see the following: root@condor:/root(13)# /etc/init.d/autofs stop * Stopping automounter ... [ !! ] * ERROR: autofs failed to stop root@condor:/root(16)# start-stop-daemon --stop --signal TERM -p /var/run/autofs.pid * start-stop-daemon: 1 process refused to stop root@condor:/root(19)# ps -C automount PID TTY TIME CMD 5835 ? 00:00:07 automount root@condor:/root(20)# kill 5835 root@condor:/root(21)# ps -C automount PID TTY TIME CMD 5835 ? 00:00:07 automount root@condor:/root(22)# kill -9 5835 root@condor:/root(23)# ps -C automount PID TTY TIME CMD I.e., automount does accept SIGTERM. Any hint appreciated. Reproducible: Always root@condor:/root(24)# emerge --info Portage 2.1.5_rc6 (default-linux/amd64/2007.0, gcc-4.2.3, glibc-2.7-r2, 2.6.25-gentoo-r1 x86_64) 1) Sometimes unmounting may be a bit slow, what happens if you replace this line in /etc/init.d/autofs: - start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --signal TERM -p ${PIDFILE} + start-stop-daemon --stop --quiet --retry TERM/5 -p ${PIDFILE} 2) Can you have a look to see if anything is still mounted? 3) Any messages in your system log?
I have had the same problem, and traced it to /usr/bin/gpg-agent as spawned by thunderbird. If, once you logout, you can use console to become root, then do a "ps -ef" and see if there is a /usr/bin/gpg-agent running. If so, kill it and then see if "/etc/init.d/autofs stop" will work correctly. I have not submitted a bug report on this yet, as I am attempting to learn more about gpg-agent first, and see if there is a timeout that can be given to the hosting program - in my case - thunderbird.
This should be fixed in 5.0.5. Try it out and if it fails, reopen bug, please.
