Please hold on on subversion. See bug #220055.
I ran into some other curiosities when subversion-1.5* went briefly ~amd64 but unmasked. It seems that this requires a version bump to net-misc/neon-0.28.2, but if you do that, you also have to rebuild rpm-4.4* (library name change). But it also seems that rpm-4* does not build with neon-0.28.2 and that you would need rpm-5*, except that that series is p.masked, ... All of that said, ~sparc added to net-libs/serf-0.1.2 --- it does build and install, and its tests work OK. I am leaving sparc in the CC awaiting the subversion issues to get sorted out and also the subversion/neon/rpm thing (it looks like several packages have to be upgraded simultaneously, and I can file a separate bug if you need it, but I really don't know how things actually have to happen.) However, ~sparc is all done for serf.

Do these packages fail to build?

Do these packages fail to build? Yes. :) RPM is a package in our tree, so it needs to build if it claims it does, official package manager or not. And something must require it (or have required it at some point) --- I have no use for it otherwise. No, rpm has nothing to do with subversion. The problem appears to look like this: subversion-1.5* requires neon-0.28*; subversion-1.5* was briefly unmasked; Upgrading to neon-0.28* changes the version of libneon; This forces a rebuild of rpm; Which means rpm-4*; But rpm-4* does not seem to build against neon-0.28* because of <.h> file changes; I suppose rpm-5* does build, but it is masked. So, there are several packages here that interact because of the neon change. I put it here because the bug is about sumversion-1.5*, and it looks to me like subversion-1.5* and rpm-5* need to get unmasked at the same time because of the not-so-innocent 3rd party (neon-0.28*).
(In reply to comment #4) > subversion-1.5* requires neon-0.28*; I suggested this dependency to force availability of some new features. Subversion can be built when Neon 0.26 is installed, but configure won't define SVN_NEON_0_27 and SVN_NEON_0_28, so support for some features won't be built (e.g. support for PaKChoiS).
added ~ppc64
~alpha/~ia64 done
Both marked ~hppa.
~sparc added to dev-util/subversion-1.5.0_rc5. serf-0.1.2 was already ~sparc, subversion builds and runs with USE='webdav-neon webdav-serf'.
