I have hal and dbus running, and automounting worked nicely until 3 days ago when I upgraded to gnome 2.22.0 . I was curious if it was strictly gnome related, so I installed xfce to see if it would do... strangely enough it DID mount my cd/dvd's but it too didn't mount my hard drives. I am aware that since 2.22 nautilus handles the automounting, and yes, nautilus is always started. Stuff specified in fstab gets mounted as usual. Also I do not have a "/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/gparted-disable-automount.fdi" file.
