Thanks Luca :) During my absence, all arch's moved to perl 5.8, negating the need for a specific MakeMaker patch. As a result, another dev removed MakeMaker from the tree. While MakeMaker may return in the future as warranted for patching, it is no longer a required dep. The perl module eclass referred to it, however, hence the problem with newer installs not being able to upgrade modules like Safe. This has been removed from the DEPEND for perl-modules.eclass.
