I have an ICH8 chipset, which needs to use de all-generic-ide=1 options no kernel boot and generic and pIIx drivers no the kernel. But when I switched from 2.6.24-r4 to 2.6.25-r1, my DVD-RW stopped to work, because the kernel didn't see my ide controller anymore, although I used the exact same kernel and grub configuration from the previous kernel. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge the most recent gentoo-sources 2.run make menuconfig and compile its modules 3.replace de kernel image for the grub to boot
Could you please post your kernel config, dmesg output shortly after boot and lspci -v output, thanks.
I have maybe a similar issue ... that it gets mistakenly picked up by AHCI controller instead. Look for threads in linux-kernel mailing list archives: http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/Kernel/2008-05/msg00446.html http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/Kernel/2008-05/msg04399.html
