I didn't have the foresight to copy the error output, but it is the same compile errors as http://trac.macports.org/projects/macports/ticket/14871 One of the comments from that page: "This seems to be a problem with the new poppler release (0.8.0 released on march 26). It appears to change the API quite a bit. I tried evince 2.22.0 with the same result. Maybe it would work with a svn version of evince (I don't know how to do that), or maybe we can hope they'll release a fixed evince Real Soon Now." My solution was to downgrade to app-text/poppler-bindings-0.6.3 which compiled without problems. I found two pages referencing pateches to make evince compile with poppler-bindings 8.0 (I have not tried to apply these patches) http://lists.pld-linux.org/mailman/pipermail/pld-cvs-commit/Week-of-Mon-20080331/193859.html http://mail.gnome.org/archives/svn-commits-list/2008-March/msg05237.html The one from gnome.org says that the patch was included into svn with revision 2965 -- whatever version that corresponds to. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: emerge gnome (on a fresh install) or spicifically emerge evince This problem should occur with older versions of evince on any architecture, but I haven't tested this first hand.
Sorry, I didn't realize that had unmasked/unkeyworded poppler 8 when I was installing kde4. app-text/poppler-bindings-0.8.0 is masked by package.mask and I shouldn't have reported a bug. Sorry!
In this case this bug is fine - we need to fix it so that eventually it would be possible to unmask poppler-0.8 and co
Have you tried with 2.22.1.1?
evince-2.22.1.1 works for me with poppler-0.8
Yes, indeed evince-2.22.2 at least works fine with poppler-0.8 after recompilation. Only problem is that evince-2.22 is not unmask on all arches, but that's a separate issue that I'll get fixed soon
