I have recently upgraded my home machine to Intel Core 2 Quad and set MAKEOPTS="-j5". But when I tried to update my system, Amarok failed. Similar errors (Session management error: Could not open network socket) occured with other KDE/Qt apps too, but not every time. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set MAKEOPTS="-j4" or higher 2. Try to emerge amarok 3. net-im/twinkle-1.2-r1 is also affected, but not every time. First time it died, after retry it compiled successfully, but i still saw multiple 'Session management error: Could not open network socket' messages.
As for amarok, this bug "is mine", although I'm not sure whether I can fix it for good (not having access to a multicore-enough machine). It's not much priority for me at the moment, but I'll try my best.
Reassigning amarok bugs to Ben as I won't be around for a while (leaving soon for the hospital -- either they hospitalise me or I get to convalescence). Ben feel free to update metadata if you wish, Amarok better have a new maintainer for the future.
Reassigning to sound herd as I don't intend to become the Amarok maintainer, as I use MPD instead.
works for me with latest stable amarok (1.4.10-r2)
I tested media-sound/amarok-1.4.10-r2 on a quad core with -j5. Builds and installs OK :) On a side note, I also tested media-sound/amarok-1.4.10 and media-sound/amarok-1.4.8 and they too built and installed ok.
If anyone else hits this bug, please reopen the bug. I'm assuming it works now.
