Description Paolo Pedroni 2008-04-16 12:34:13 UTC
After moving to sys-apps/baselayout-2.0.0 rc-status now shows snort crashed

# ps -ef | grep snort
snort 3680 1 0 13:55 ? 00:00:02 /usr/bin/snort -D -A fast -u snort -i any -l /var/log/snort -c /etc/snort/snort.conf

snort seems to work as expected.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. /etc/init.d/snort
2. rc-status -a
Actual Results:
snort shows up as crashed in rc-status output.

Expected Results:
It should show up as normal.

Patch that fixes this bug

This short patch (idea taken from bug #217811) fixes the problem. It looks like the new /sbin/start_stop_daemon has problems with the --pidfile option. I'll go and file a bug for it if it hasn't been filed already.

There is a new ebuild for snort-2.8.4 at the following bug...

bug#266288

This ebuild resolves this issue.
