Description Ulim 2008-04-14 14:50:27 UTC
I developed a branch for jabber file transfer and I was wondering if we could make it a use flag in the bitlbee ebuild. I'd try to write an ebuild and upload a patch.

I'm hoping jabber ft will be merged upstream some time in the future. I'm also reachable on irc as ulim in #bitlbee and #gentoo. Thanks!

Reproducible: Always

I prefer waiting that upstream put it in the mainstream.
As you say that upstream is aware of this.

Ok, but I can say that the branch is about 5 month old and it might well take another 6 month or more till it is merged( latest stable bitlbee release was 2005, cycles are quite long). I just thought people who really want jabber file transfer can enable the use flag and see the warning that it's a patch. It doesnt change much in the core code, so if you dont use file transfers it should be as stable as upstream. mail-client/mutt is another example where we have a patch as use flag (sidebar).
