Booting 2008.0 beta1 CD gives kernel panic with the message:
Kernel panic - not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option
apic=debug gives:
ENABLING IO-APIC IRQs
..TIMER: vector=0x31 apic1=0 pin1=0 apic2=-1 pin2=-1
..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
...trying to set up timer (IRQ0) through the 8259A ... failed.
...trying to set up timer as Virtual Wire IRQ ... failed.
...trying to set up timer as ExtINT IRQ... failed :(.


Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot minimal install CD for x86 (no framebuffer option, with framebuffer the kernel panics again, but no display is available)

kernel panic

Expected Results:  
boot install CD

Platform is Nforce 430/GF6100 Asus M2N-MX SE Plus with Sempron 3800+ CPU
