Every howto I have found that show how to build xdirectfb supposes that you are searching for an alternative to Xorg that you already have installed (and so, xinit is already installed in such cases) Installing xdirectfb should result in installing xinit Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install gentoo-2008.0-beta1 2. emerge --sync && emerge --update --deep --newuse world 3. emerge xdirectfb Actual Results: We cannot launch /usr/X11R6/bin/startxdfb It is the only alternative to xorg-x11 and for low memory targets, xdirectfb should be a feature
Dear X11 team, I realize you aren't listed as a maintainer, so please re-assign to m-w if you aren't interested in this. However, if you are, it might be a good idea to update metadata.xml.
Actually, this is probably going to get masked and removed. It's insanely old. If you need low-memory, use xorg-server with USE="minimal kdrive -xorg"
I don't need low-memory, but I need an alternative to Xorg
