not more than the title.
upon installing it without mkfontscale, ./configure complains that mkfontscale is missing

Actually it has this dependency, I didn't check.
The behavior I had was due to paludis and circular dependencies being ignored (upon my request, and me not reading the huge messages telling me that circular deps are evil) and trimming some branches of its graph, making this happen.
