I think there should be a "flac" USE flag introduced to enable lossless compression of soundfiles. Or the configure at least fixed to detect my installed media-libs/flac-1.2.1-r2, media-sound/flac123-0.0.11.

hmm its not only about configure checks neither a lack of useflag, that's the whole flac support in libfishsound that uses a 2 years old api of flac pre 1.1.3. Any sane system should use the new api and flac version. Please see with upstream for porting this to the new api.
