Description Maxim Grechkin 2008-04-06 16:56:43 UTC
There is no net-wireless/at76c503a package in x86 livecd, that is needed for my wireless card. So livecd is useless for me.
Comment 1 Andrew Gaffney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-04-06 17:00:46 UTC
We only include packages/drivers that have a stable version in portage on the release media. Please reopen this bug when there's a stable version in portage.
Comment 2 Maxim Grechkin 2008-04-06 17:12:17 UTC
This driver is stable. Should I open a bug for adding x86 keyword for it first? But I think even unstable driver is better than no driver. Without providing some drivers especially network drivers and maybe display drivers (vesa works everywhere fortunately) you make livecd useless for network install. And even networkless install will not solve problem of not having wireless driver. Users will have to download it on the another computer and transfer to gentoo box, which is bad thing.
Comment 3 Andrew Gaffney (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-04-06 17:13:45 UTC
It's too late in the release cycle to get the driver properly stabilized. It is (and has been for a very long time) the policy of releng to only include stable packages. We will not make an exception.

I'm going to REOPEN this...

After all, the bug is still valid, it just won't be fixed this release.
Comment 6 Maxim Grechkin 2008-04-09 08:07:17 UTC
I hope at76 will be merged into kernel tree until next release so you won't have such problem.
Comment 7 Jorge Manuel B. S. Vicetto (RETIRED) Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2010-12-01 18:02:00 UTC
This driver is present in the kernel specs for both x86 and amd64 in the weekly releases.
