After bootstrapping prefix portage on x86 Linux it is possible to do "emerge gkrellm". A total of 30 packages are emerged; really impressive. However, when starting `gkrellm' it doesn't display any text labels well, it draws little rectangles instead of characters. A workaround is to do "emerge corefonts" and restart gkrellm. It will then draw intelligible labels. Not sure what the proper solution should be. A dependency? Or some configuration action? Hopefully there is a solution by which gkrellm can be made to work "out of the box" just like in native Gentoo.
related to bug 214569 or bug 197676 or both?
this bug sounds like bug #197676 In a way X apps assume that some fonts are installed. I'm not sure what's the best fix here. Maybe something along the lines of what is suggested in bug #214569 would fix this bug sufficiently as well...
(Ah, I didn't see Jeremy's reply, indeed, I think he's right)
hopefully fixed via bug #214569
Rabbe, assumed fixed. Please re-open if Comment #4 is incorrect. Thanks.
