Description saellaven 2008-04-05 04:44:40 UTC
Upgrading to sys-devel/m4-1.4.10-r1 causes all ebuilds which require autoconf to fail, giving an error of:

autom4te-2.61: need GNU m4 1.4 or later: /usr/bin/m4

Reverting to sys-devel/m4-1.4.10 causes behavior to return to normal

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge sys-devel/m4-1.4.10-r1
2.try to emerge any package built using autoconf

Actual Results:
make: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/app-editors/vim-core-7.1.266/work/vim71/src'
if test ! -f configure.save; then mv configure configure.save; fi
autoconf
autom4te-2.61: need GNU m4 1.4 or later: /usr/bin/m4
make: *** [autoconf] Error 1
make: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/app-editors/vim-core-7.1.266/work/vim71/src'

 * The specific snippet of code:
 *       WANT_AUTOCONF=2.5 make -j1 -C src $confrule || die "make $confrule failed";
 *  The die message:
 *   make autoconf failed

Expected Results:
normal compilation

fails with or without distcc enabled.
attempting to emerge autoconf with m4-1.4.10-r1 also fails

# m4 --version
m4 (GNU M4) 1.4.10

no problems with the new version on my amd64 box

m4-1.4.10 works
m4-1.4.10-r1 fails
m4-1.4.10-r2 fails
m4-1.4.11 works
Comment 3 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2008-04-07 03:19:43 UTC
probably the lseek bsd patch ... i'll drop the patch for 1.4.10-r3 and push it into stable since that was the only change from 1.4.10
Comment 4 saellaven 2008-04-08 08:00:53 UTC
Just adding that 1.4.10-r3 indeed works
